‘Nail Polish Networking’ and Creative Crit event at Kingston University

Kingston university’s own creative agency hosts “(Nail) Polish your Networking Skills” connecting creatives and inviting conversations about the industry.

Two events, a ‘Drop In Crit’ to show and get feedback on current work, and a ‘(Nail) Polish your Networking Skills’ to meet and connect with other creatives was held on Wednesday 6th March in knights park from 1 - 3pm and saw a group of students from all years and courses connect on common interests whilst painting their nails.

It was organised as a part of the Careers Festival that took place the past week organised to connect students with pathways to their careers post graduating.

The event formed due to previous experience from a former Kingston student, Alice Torres Tailfer, who is the Innovation Partnerships Coordinator for Studio KT1, and Student Development & Graduate Success at Kingston University.

Talifer explained that “in the context of careers festival” they provide “free information, sessions about networking, how to get paid, how Studio KT1 works, but also just kind of more of a social meet up as an opportunity for students to meet each other within different courses where they might not meet each other otherwise.”

"stuffy and boring"

Talifer wanted to make sure there were a lot of fun events that weren't “stuffy and boring”, ‘(Nail) Polish your Networking Skills’  was inspired by changing the narrative of femininity traditionally not being seen as professional to allow for the idea of women working and connecting whilst still being able to express their femininity.

“In terms of the crit, part of it was I want to  see what the students are up to and what work they're producing but I think it's also good to have a positive environment where students from different courses can critique each other's work.”
