The unexpected scares of halloween: the horror of trying to get into PRYZM.
The unexpected scares of halloween: the horror of trying to get into PRYZM.
Students turned away outside PRYZM on October 31st as many partygoers tried to get into Kingston’s nightclub, with many being kicked out.
Partygoers queued to get into PRYZM on Tuesday for drinks and DJs at the popular club, but it was soon packed and overwhelmed with the numbers of people that tried to gain entry, with many not being able to move due to being crammed in within the space.
"Customers disappointed"
Most club and event organisations sell online tickets but withhold a selection for last-minute entries but PRYZM, despite always being popular and close to capacity, does not offer any on-the-door tickets, leaving many customers disappointed, and having to miss out.
Halfway through the evening, things started to escalate when people were being kicked out for unsociable behaviour and those that had stepped outside of the building, refused re-entry on return.
The security guard explained that this was due to security protocols put in place to make sure no one entered after ingesting anything prohibited or bringing in items not allowed in the building, despite having to go through detectors and thorough pat-down body checks on admission. There was a group of confused and upset friends that had to go home after going outside to meet a friend and being refused entry.
"found the experience quite frustrating"
The security on the doors suggested people without a ticket to “keep refreshing and checking the website to see if any become available”. They also explained that in previous years “once the tickets had sold out that was it and no one else was let in”.
Many found the experience quite frustrating, with one man being ushered away after multiple attempts to enter. Even after going through the process of getting in, others found the experience quite disturbing with performers dressed up as clowns running through and people with pig heads pouring fake blood over themselves in a suggestive manner, getting some on people standing in the front row.
The mishap with entry and ticket sales resumed back to normal after the chaos of the night's events, leaving the ghosts and ghouls for next year.
